Jil Sander redefines modern balance with SS23 collection
Designers lucie and luke meier redefined modern balance with their spring/summer 2023 collection for jil sander at milan fashion week. Inspired by the new and progressive world of the west coast, the label’s latest lineup features a merge of classic workwear geometric patterns and hollywood’s sartorial glamour, romanticism and realism.
“to show womenswear and menswear together came naturally. It definitively mirrors what we have done since we started designing our jil sander and what we consider one of the foundations of our work together,” the label shared in a press release. “we always search for a balance among elements that are usually considered opposites, formally, culturally, or emotionally. We think it is important to merge the archetypes of womenswear and menswear, to fuse delicate and functional, day and night, gowns and workwear. It creates the space of freedom and feels intimate and modern to us personally.”
Presenting a mélange of smooth lines, elongated silhouettes, sequins and sculpted silhouettes, the ss23 collection is the epitome of modern design and sophistication. The label’s revival of tailoring takes center stage, while detailing such as frills, feathers, and cloud-shaped mirrors add a playful touch to the lineup. Notable designs include this season’s monochrome suiting, short dresses, jackets and the crêpe sablé long suit.
The range is mainly grounded in a neutral palette of white, cream, sand, peach, powder and black. Meanwhile, several pieces arrive in the form of blue, green, lilac, acid green, deep framboise and magenta. The meiers also featured a display of bold, bright and varied fabrics like soft cotton-linen, silk, wools, knitwear, overpainted suede and goatskin that added life to the showcase.
