The Burberry brand was founded when sports outfitter Thomas Burberry patented gabardine, a tightly woven waterproof cotton that revolutionized outerwear. The garment's iconic status would only be matched by the nova check Burberry distinctive beige, black, and white plaid featured in its lining. From spring/summer 2019, Riccardo Tisci - former designer of Givenchy - has taken control over the brand as their creative director followed by Daniel Lee - former creative director of Bottega Veneta - as a chief creative officer in 2022.
